Why we made this
Every so often, someone walks up to an office front desk with a perfectly reasonable-sounding story: “I left my badge at home,” or “The CEO sent me.” Tricks like these, which play on people's helpfulness and their reluctance to question someone important, are called social engineering. Learning about it the serious way tends to feel like mandatory compliance training, so we wondered: could it instead be a way to practice that “wait, something's off here” feeling while laughing?
So we made an office comedy where you're the receptionist, handling one suspicious visitor after another. When you miss one, the worst that happens is a headline in the Evening Bulletin like “Entire contents of the company safe replaced with acorns.” Your mistakes come back as jokes, so it's easy to work just one more day. We hope it's a fun 90-second break on your commute or between meetings.
About the game's content
The company in the game (Oddball Industries), its people, and the events are all fictional. The visitors' tricks are exaggerated versions of real ones, and the game's decisions are no substitute for real front-desk or security procedures.
